Thinking About an iPhone 5? Start thinking Bluetooth

by BRAVEN

Apple finally announced this week that the iPhone 5 will be shipping on Sept. 21 and confirmed rumors that the new model has nixed the original 30-pin connector in favor of an updated 8-pin “Lightning” port because it’s reversible, durable and allows the new iPhone to be about 20% thinner than its predecessor. But that doesn’t mean you have to update all of your accessories. Start thinking Bluetooth.

All of those iPhone accessories you’ve collected for nine years aren’t obsolete yet but they will be severely limited by the new adapter. While Apple’s 30-pin-to-Lightning adapter can be purchased separately for $29, CNN is reporting that it won’t support ipod controls. With such an amazing new device it seems a shame to sacrifice core functionality with your audio devices. The solution? Bluetooth. This adapter-killing technology will prevail and BRAVEN is leading the way.

Bluetooth is making waves within the audio, auto, and exercise industries and quickly becoming the go-to technology for products within those realms. On August 27 the Bluetooth Special Interest Group (SIG) finalized standards for bluetooth devices to measure “speed and cadence for running and cycling activity” with the intent of eclipsing ANT+ smart sensors.

This means that Bluetooth 4.0 devices will eliminate the need for additional fitness accessories and allow you to incorporate your fitness results directly into your compliant apps.

In the automotive spectrum, C|Net recently published an article that highlights six reasons why Bluetooth is a one-stop for car connectivity including hands-free calling or texting and audio streaming. More and more car manufacturers like Land Rover, BMW, and Jaguar are including Advanced Audio Distribution Profile (A2DP) into the in-dash radios, allowing for audio streaming and completely eliminating the need for any cords.

Finally, wireless Bluetooth speakers are leading the war against corded connectivity and proving that great sound can be future proof. Traditional docks and auxiliary cords experience wear-and-tear that severely limits the product’s overall performance. A wireless Bluetooth connection is virtual and will never experience such issues. New technologies like aptX allow for near lossless audio transmission, giving the user a vastly improved listening experience.

While you’re waiting in line at the Apple store on Sept. 21, BRAVEN urges you to consider the future of your iPhone purchases. Are you going to have to continually upgrade your iPhone accessories each time a new model comes out or would you rather purchase Bluetooth-enabled products that will work with many devices long into the future?
